Livable Wages
Creating Economic Reform through Livable Wages for All.
Designed to work in conjunction with the Full Employment project proposed and backed by The Brain Fund, our Livable Wages project has a twofold purpose:
• To provide rank-and-file employees with the financial resources they need to enjoy the basic necessities of life and to improve educational opportunities for themselves and their children
• To reduce the gap between executive salaries and production line wages to restore the middle class and improve economic conditions and purchasing power for the majority of American citizens
The Brain Fund is researching the best ways to calculate what constitutes a living wage in various areas of the country. Workers who are paid a fair wage can participate in the consumer marketplace more effectively to provide support for manufacturers and retailers. As the middle class vanishes from the U.S. economy, demand for many products and services decreases drastically. Reduced sales can cause critical cash-flow problems in commercial and industrial firms and can lead to their shutdown. It is in the best interest of business concerns to maintain the viability of the U.S. middle class and to pay a fair and reasonable wage to all employees on their team.
Recent protests by fast food workers and other employees in low-wage positions have highlighted the need for reform in the area of wages and salaries for part-time and full-time workers. The Brain Fund believes that only by providing true economic justice can America reach her full potential in providing opportunities for advancement for all citizens. By working toward the goal of livable wages for all members of the workforce, we believe we can create a brighter future not only for employees but also for investors and business owners at all levels of the U.S. corporate environment.
