End School-To-Prison Pipeline

p1Ending the Disproved Cycle of Crime and Punishment.

For many students, lack of employment and educational opportunities after high school can result in disillusionment with the current system and disengagement from the larger society:

• Job opportunities for high school graduates may be limited to service industry positions that are part-time and that offer minimal financial stability, especially for those with children or other responsibilities to maintain.
• The high cost of college studies can discourage some of the best and brightest students and can reduce their ability to further their educations to open up new employment opportunities.
• Depressed economic conditions in rural areas and major metropolitan areas alike can create difficulties in finding employment even after graduation with a two-year or four-year degree.

These factors can often result in young adults turning to criminal pursuits to achieve economic rewards or out of anger at their current situations. At The Brain Fund, we are committed to providing practical solutions that can allow students living in poverty to graduate from college debt-free and ready to enjoy increased financial stability. Through our eduPOINT$ program, we allow sponsorship of students who may not otherwise be able to afford the cost of college studies.

By providing real opportunities for young adults to achieve stable employment that pays a living wage and to better their situations with affordable higher education options, our society can break the cycle of crime and punishment after graduation from high school. The Brain Fund supports the efforts of leaders in the political, economic and social arenas to provide school and work options that can help families rise out of poverty and participate fully in the U.S. economy.
